Strategic Plan 2008 to 2012

The Queensland Bulk Water Supply Authority (trading as Seqwater) was established by the Queensland Government on 16 November 2007 to manage the major catchments, dams, storages, groundwater sources and water treatment infrastructure in South East Queensland. The enabling legislation defines the scope of our responsibilities to include water quality, catchment management and water related solutions that deliver improved sustainability and security of supply for South East Queensland.
This Strategic Plan sets the direction for Seqwater to define and develop services to meet its legislated responsibilities and achieve long-term sustainability. The future of regional water supply in South East Queensland will be substantially different from the past. As well as the changing institutional arrangements, the region is likely to be impacted by climate change, reformed regulations for water and natural resources, ongoing urban growth, increased rural demand for water resources and changing community expectations.
This plan sets the direction for the business over the next five years. During this time Seqwater will achieve integrated management of its catchment resources, including land and farm assets, sources, storages and supply infrastructure.
This ‘whole of- catchment’ approach will be based on the specific ‘know-how’ – the applied sciences, expert operations, legislative and regulatory frameworks, technologies and engineering as well as partnerships – required to optimise the performance of all our catchment resources.
This plan establishes milestones that recognise Seqwater’s initial priority to secure the regulated water supply while creating a firm foundation for long-term catchment sustainability and innovative water solutions. Achievement of these demanding milestones will depend on skilled and committed staff, the support of stakeholders and consumers, and the demonstration of high standards of governance, risk and financial management.
